Good mental health is a vital part of our children’s overall health and well-being.
As parents, we know how to identify and address our children’s physical health needs. We provide nutritious food, shelter and clothing. We schedule regular doctor visits. We take care of needed vaccinations. But, our children’s mental and emotional needs and illnesses aren’t quite so obvious. Just as we check their physical milestones (i.e. height and weight), we should also be looking at their social and emotional milestones, and ask our pediatricians about mental health.
We hope the information on this web site will help you take steps to promote good mental health for your children:
- Raise the subject. Talk to your spouse, partner, other family members and your kids about the importance of mental health.
- Learn more by exploring this site and the resources on it.
- Ask for help when you need it from someone you trust—like family, friends, teachers, pediatricians, or clergy members.
